Why do some of us succeed while others fail?
The question applies to all areas of life: learning to play an instrument, lose weight, earning good income through your business … And yet, we do not ask ourselves enough.
Because by observing and following the habits of successful entrepreneurs, you will considerably increase your chances of success in all your projects!
So what routines have helped the best entrepreneurs get to the top? Of course, they vary from one individual to another … but 7 of them come back often and are decisive.
I admit that I have always operated on instinct on my way. But this instinct is not so bad because it has led me so far.
But for three years, I have been able to put names on everything I had discovered and learned. And I think that indeed, the seven habits are part of it. Let’s go!
1 – Set clear objectives and an action plan
Do you want to succeed? Very good. But what do you want to achieve in the long term?
To see clearly, it is necessary to note your goal transparently. The idea is to establish numerical values to know where you are in its accomplishment.
Then detail the steps to get there: intermediate to medium and short term goals. Once this is done, your action plan is practically defined.
Now all you need to do is create a To-Do list for the next day. But stay reasonable in your daily goals! Busy days may discourage you.
So be patient and persistent: the road to success is a marathon, not a sprint!
2 – Stay focused on one thing at a time
New technologies help us get our jobs done much faster. But they also tend to distract us from what we do.
Get into the habit of silencing your smartphone, closing unnecessary apps, and focusing on one task at a time.
Likewise, don’t be distracted or deterred by what others are doing. Focus on each of your small steps.
3 – Get out of your comfort zone
Another crucial habit shared by most successful entrepreneurs: learn how to get out of your comfort zone!
If you stay only in your area of expertise, you will end up going around in circles. Of course, it is good to maintain a high degree of expertise.
But keeping an open mind and trying new things regularly will inspire you and allows you to make real progress, including in your area of excellence!
4 – Never stop learning
An essential part of the 7 habits of successful entrepreneurs is they never stop learning. So, spend part of the day reading and training. Each time you read a book about a new concept, new theory or other philosophy, you’ll gain a pearl of more wisdom and discover a little more what life has to offer.
Besides, it takes you away from the small problems of everyday life and transports you to the exquisite pleasures of the mind.
“There are five important things for living a successful and fulfilling life: never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.” ― Roy Bennett
It is a must today because careers and fields of specialization are evolving more and more quickly. Constant learning will not only help you become more efficient and productive in the long run, but it will also help you maintain your interest in your project!
5 – Learn from your failures
Everyone fails at one point or another. This is also the case for every entrepreneur who succeeded.
But the difference between these who succeeded and most people is that they don’t let themselves down! On the contrary, after each failure, they start questioning themselves:
Why did I fail? How can I prevent this from happening again? What corrections should be made to my approach?
And they try again. Until they succeed. This iteration/correction approach is hugely useful.
6 – Exercise and take care of yourself
We can never repeat it enough: if you do not stay in good health, it will be more difficult to succeed!
So, one of the entrepreneur’s successful habits is to exercise regularly – depending on your tastes and your possibilities: this can range from intensive CrossFit sessions to a daily walk of 20 minutes …
But do not sit in your chair all day! One of my mental performance coaches ensures that 20 minutes a day is enough, or if you are really in a hurry, do at least 5 minutes of Tabata!
There are lots of apps to get you started … no excuse
Likewise, learn to eat healthy to stay in good shape.
Finally, take a healthier pace for your waking and sleeping hours. In the ideal minimum of 7 hours of sleep, and the hours between 22h and midnight are the most recuperating … By the way, read “Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod:
It is confirmed: successful entrepreneurs are very often early risers. This will help you have better control of your day by applying morning routines to progress in your favourite areas…
7 – Meditate to stay focused
Yes, one of the many habits of successful entrepreneurs is that they practice mindfulness meditation!
Studies suggest that this practice relieves anxiety and prevents depression. It can also improve your ability to concentrate.
Get into the habit of meditating for about fifteen minutes every day. The basic technique is quite simple: sit still and focus on your breathing.
Thoughts will arise, it’s completely normal. Watch them go by as if they were outside of you … Then come back to your breath.
There is no goal to achieve, other than calm and detachment from your thoughts. You will see, the results are fast and impressive!
Conclusion
So what habit do you already practice? Which one are you going to put in place?
Either way, don’t try to change everything all at once but instead try to establish only one habit at a time.
Devote 30 days to it and, once it is well installed, go to the next one.
For a new habit of taking hold, it needs repetition and time … which is counted in weeks. So never give up too quickly!
Here, you hold the essential keys to improve your performance and carry out your objectives … Now, it’s up to you!
